Civ4 Warlords Preview on GameSpy

932340_20060628_screen005_thumb.jpgGameSpy also has posted their preview of the Civilization IV: Warlords expansion. Like the IGN and GameSpot previews, the focus is on the scenarios. Most of the info are already mentioned in other previews, but it’s still a good read.

Here is a quote about the new Warlord unit:

Warlords gets its namesake from the new type of “Great Person” it introduces: the Great General, which you get access to by winning battles. As your units gain experience during a game, the game will tally up totals, and once you reach a certain amount, you’ll spawn one, and the meter starts over. Once you get access to these guys, you can attach them to one of your combat units, which confers upon them a 50 percent experience bonus, as well as free upgrades whenever they become eligible. Once they’re thus attached to a unit in this way, Great Generals are known as Warlords. Great Generals can also function in ways similar to other types of Great People – that is, you can use them to usher in discoveries, technologies, or start a Golden Age.

For the Viking scenario, the preview mentioned that after you ransomed a captured city back to its original owner, attacking that city again would make you lose the option of ransoming any subsequent settlements.

For the Omen scenario which let’s you play as either Great Britain or France in a race to settle North America, the goal is to convert the native people, and depending on how well you’re doing, you’ll either incur the favor or wrath of the Christian deity.
