In the first Civ5 files update of 2012 we have 5 mods for you, 3 even totally new!
And not even small ones, with Putmalks Ancient World and Anno Domini we have 2 full grown total conversion mods. Everyone who seeks a totally new experience with Civ5 should take a look at them, maybe these history parts are what you’re searching for 
.
The third new is Hulfgars new mod about Industrial Warfare, which limits the game in the future, so that you can have a bit more WWII if you like.
And also the 2 other mods have to be mentioend, Uomo Universalis and Hulfgars modpack, which are both updates to already succesful mods. If you have not checked them out before you should try it now .
